Book an Appointment
Student Learning Specialists are avaialbe for individual appointments, where you can discuss how you are approaching your learning at Western.
Follow the instructions below to book an in-person or virtual session. To make the most of your appointment, please make sure you have your learning tools (textbooks, notes, calendars, etc.) with you during your booked appointment.
- Log in to Western Connect.
- On the left-hand side, choose Appointments.
- Choose Learning Development & Success:
- To find the earliest available appointment, click on View Calendar.
- If you know which Learning Specialist you'd like to book an appointment with, click on Book by Appointment Type.
- Click on Book under any of the options you have available. Available dates will appear on the right side of the screen.
- Choose the day and time that works for you and follow the prompts from there. Some appointments will only be available virtually, some in-person, and other appointments will allow you to choose between an in-person or virtual format.
You will receive an appointment confirmation once booking is complete. Zoom links for virtual sessions can be found in this confirmation email. If you require further support with booking your appointments, please email learning@uwo.ca.

If you're looking for support with any of the following, please note that we do not help with these topics. Instead, click the appropriate link to visit one of our campus partners, who are experts in each area.
- Course selection, degree progression or questions about your program
- Arranging or changing academic accomodations

Read on below to learn more about what to expect during an appointment. Please note, if you are a professional student (MD, DDS, JD, etc.) you will quailify for a Graduate Student Appointment.
Undergraduate Student APPOINTMENTS
Undergraduate students can book a 30-minute session with a Student Learning Specialists, where you can discuss ways you can reach your academic goals.
During an appointment with Learning Development & Success, we help you:
- Plan and use your time more effectively
- Prepare for tests and exams using effective study strategies
- Take useful notes in lecture
- Read textbooks and academic articles with confidence
- Maintain motivation through setting goals
- Develop habits that set you up for academic success
First time booking an appointment?
If it is your first time meeting with a Student Learning Specialist, consider completing our Learning Skills Self-Assessment to have more in-depth, guided convesations about your learning, or learn about other resources that we offer to support your learning development!
This survey takes about 10 minutes, and will ask you to reflect on your approaches to key areas that are important to your academic success. Once you complete the survey, a copy of your results will be emailed to you, and a copy will be sent to the Learning Specialists. When you book your appointment, you and your learning specialist can review your survey and discuss plans in the areas you want to work on.
*Please note: we are currently limiting students to one(1) entry on the Self-Assessment. Please make sure to save your responses, which will be emailed to you, for future reference!*
Graduate Student Appointments
Graduate students book 50-minute appointments with Student Learning Specialists who can help you create and follow through on an action plan for your studies.
During an appointment with Learning Development & Success, we help you:
- Reflect on your approach to time management/project management
- Read textbooks and academic articles with confidence
- Improve your note-taking and organizationa skills for research
- Maintain motivation through setting goals
- Develop habits and positive mindsets that set you up for academic success
- and much, much more!
Please make sure to bring your learning materials (academic articles, notebooks, assignment/project details, calendars, etc.) with you to your booked appointment. To learn more about other supports we have for graduate students click the link for Information for Graduate Students!

- Appointments can benefit students who are experiencing academic difficulty and successful students who want to improve performance
- For students experiencing academic difficulties, it is strongly advised that they arrange an appointment as soon as possible. See Disappointing Grade? for additional information.
- Learning Development support is available for all Western students, from first year to graduate school.
- Students may self-refer to the service or be referred by a professor or staff member.
